Beginner Tutorial

*Important Note: This tutorial explains how to carve spoons using only the materials listed in the “Must-Haves” section of the materials list

STEP 1: Put on your cut-proof gloves (they come in the kit listed)

STEP 2: Draw the shape you want your spoon to be on your spoon blank

STEP 3: Start scooping out the bowl of the spoon with the hook-shaped knife

STEP 4: Use the 2 knives (from the kit listed) to carve the rest of the spoon. Try to carve “with the grain” — this will feel smooth, while carving “against the grain” will feel rough

STEP 5: Sand down your spoon with sandpaper, going from roughest to smoothest

STEP 6: Once your spoon is pretty smooth, run it under water — this raises the “hairs”. Sand down the hairs of the wet spoon

STEP 7: Keep sanding with the smoother sandpaper grains until your spoon is as smooth as you’d like

STEP 8: Seal it up with mineral oil, then enjoy your spoon!
